Thank you to Pretty in Pink Spa and Mix it Up Media (that’s my neighbor Kerry Hills!) who hosted a morning of networking and entrepreneurial encouragement.


I was invited to give a keynote talk this past January about turning fear into success for women.

New website coming…

As you may have noticed I haven’t been writing regular posts because I’m in the middle of updating my blog to a new format.

The new site will be more interactive and reflective of where I am in my career (busting down apologies….one. apology. at. a. time).

On the new site I’ll be offering webinars and you’ll also be able to purchase my books directly on the site.

I’ve hired a new team to help me redesign the site to something modern, fresh and easy to navigate (I hear ya!, the purple on this blog isn’t the easiest on the eyes).

The new site will be ready at the of February 2017!

How to gain confidence

Learning to SPEAK UP and voice your opinion at school, in meetings, or  at work is a vital skill that only comes with practice. You have to practice sounding confident until you actually start believing in it.

Modesty is useless for women

In a 2010 study analyzing the challenge of modesty for women, researchers found that it is more beneficial for a woman’s career to SELF-PROMOTE rather than to be modest about her accomplishments.

What we know is that women:

  1. Need to learn HOW to self-promote.
  2. Need to get over the comfortableness of self-promotion and stop viewing it as a negative, boastful or conceited thing.
  3. Need to support other women and share strategies on how to display accomplishments and the significance of these achievements.

Leadership Summit for Women -Prof. Maja is key note speaker

I’ll be speaking at the upcoming Leadership Summit for Women on Saturday November 12th, 2016 at 2:30 pm in Hamilton, Ontario. The title of my talk is “Hey Ladies, Stop Apologizing” and I’ll discuss  the ways our internal barriers of fear, confidence and mindset negatively impact women’s careers.

Among the problems women face:

  • We’re perfectionists.
  • We apologize. ALL. THE. TIME
  • We’re over thinkers (especially when we make mistakes!).
  • We don’t self-promote.
  • We’re obsessed with being nice.

This is a half-day conference with the goal of  developing leadership skills and facilitating conversations about meaningful change within our organizations, communities and society at large.

This is a community-wide event that brings together women, trans individuals, and allies from the McMaster and Hamilton communities. This event provides the skills, space, and support for all participants to reach their full potential.

The event takes place at the David Braley Health Sciences Centre (100 Main St. West)
